Mailinglists are e-mail forums where you receive and can participate in
discussions (pertaining to the type of e-mailinglist you chose). Some are high
volume, meaning you could receive hundreds of e-mails a day. Some are more low-key,
strictly informational, while others are an excellent way of making friends.
Chatrooms are an alternative to receiving e-mail messages, but still allow you to
converse / ask questions / share information with others. You can post a question or
remark, and others will (hopefully) respond to it.
